400 Canada World Youth volunteers are arriving in the country to celebrate the organization’s 40th anniversary
Montreal, September 22nd – The volunteer projects of 400 youth from Canada and overseas begin in 23 cities across the country. These youth aged 17 to 29 are taking part in a program of Canada World Youth, a non-for-profit organisation which offers them the opportunity to spend 3 months in a community in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe or Latin America, and 3 months in a Canadian province other than their own. During those 6 months, the young volunteers contribute to community initiatives in the health and environment sectors, they learn about other cultures and diverse Canadian communities, and they develop leadership and communication skills.
This year, these youth will also participate in events organized across the country to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Canada World Youth. To commemorate this milestone, more than 110 municipalities across Canada have officially proclaimed the week of October 17th to 23rd 2011 as Canada World Youth Week. Since 1971, the organisation has given 34,000 youth the opportunity to complete an international development program in one of the 67 countries where it has had partnerships.
