Canada World Youth Alumnus Michèle Audette receives Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work with Aboriginal communities
Montréal, November 23, 2012 — Canada World Youth Alumnus Michèle Audette receives Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work with Aboriginal communities
We at Canada World Youth wish to congratulate our esteemed alumnus, Michèle Audette, who was recently awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her significant achievements in engaging the Aboriginal community and, in particular, Aboriginal women.
“We are thrilled to learn that one of our CWY Alumni has received such important recognition for her contributions to improving the lives of Aboriginal families and communities in Canada. We are humbled to know that Michèle Audette’s time with Canada World Youth had a significant impact on her life and contributed to her ongoing commitment to create positive change through community engagement,” said Louis Moubarak, President and Chief Executive Officer (interim), Canada World Youth.
“I participated in a CWY program in 1993 which began in Donnacona, Québec and took me to Brazil,” explained Michèle Audette “The experience changed my life and opened my eyes and heart to how ignorant I was about my own rich culture. I came back strong and proud of whom I was. Over the years, I became increasingly active and passionate. Twenty years ago, I promoted CWY during the Royal Commission on Aboriginal People to ensure that my brothers and sisters across Canada would also be able to benefit from the program that saved my life.”
Michèle Audette was elected President of The Native Women’s Association of Canada in August 2012.
