Canada World Youth Celebrates International Volunteer Day, 2013

IVD
On behalf of Canada World Youth staff and the Board of Directors, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our youth volunteers, past and present, for the important contributions they are making to their communities through their active volunteerism and leadership.

Youth volunteers represent an amazing human and social capital that we need to leverage for the future of our communities.  Every year, more than one thousand Canada World Youth volunteers contribute to over 1 million hours of volunteer time in communities across Canada and around the world.

Today, we pay special tribute to the role of youth volunteerism in contributing to global peace and sustainable human development. Through our over 40 years of programming, we have seen the impact that young people can have when given the opportunity, support and training to become agents of change in their communities. Many Canada World Youth volunteers have gone on to lead important initiatives in their communities, inspiring and creating space for other youth to take on leadership roles at a local level. This is the impact of empowering youth volunteers!  Give youth the opportunity to lead and an amazing ripple effect of leadership will follow, one that is hopeful, innovative and rooted in positive, lasting change.

Once again, to all CWY youth volunteers, and youth everywhere volunteering to better their communities, we thank you for making our world a better place.
