Canada World Youth volunteers and The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade (SCFAIT) meet in Jakarta, Indonesia

On Wednesday February 25th 2015, ten volunteers from Canada World Youth (CWY) met members of the Canadian Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade (SCFAIT) in Jakarta, Indonesia, during a lunch meeting. The Senators’ delegation included the committee’s Chair, the Hon. Raynell Andreychuk, its Deputy Chair, the Hon. Percy E. Downe, and committee members the Hons. Salma Ataullahjan, Dennis Dawson, Jacques Demers, Nicole Eaton, Suzanne Fortin-Duplessis, Victor Oh, and David P. Smith. The CWY volunteers performed the traditional SAMAN Indonesian dance and had then the chance to discuss with the Senators.

The ten CWY youth volunteers are currently taking part in the CWY Youth Leaders in Action program in the Thousand Islands region located off the coast of Jakarta. The youth leaders are volunteering on different health, environmental and sustainable development projects. CWY works in partnership with the State Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (MENPORA) since 1973; this is Canada World Youth’s longest running partnership. This year, 124 Youth volunteers in seven exchanges will contribute to increasing and strengthening MENPORA’S and local communities’ capacities and skills by participating in sector projects.
