Alumni spotlight – Julie Noirfalise
For the past 10 years, I have been involved with various Canadian organizations with whom I have done volunteer work in Honduras, Senegal and three Canadian provinces. When I took part in projects such as Canada World Youth’s Youth Leaders in Action program in 2010–2011, every day became an opportunity to learn and discuss experiences, knowledge and skills.
I’ve just completed a one-year project in Senegal where I participated in the EQWIP HUBs program as an Innovation Advisor. I assisted with project development and strengthening our partners’ abilities while creating tools to facilitate the organization of our training activities.
Each experience brought me something different. I had the opportunity to improve my understanding and open myself to new cultures and beliefs. I familiarized myself with the importance of respecting the environment, the concept of gender and interculturality. I met people who became great friends, despite our cultural differences. My contacts brought me a lot of appreciation for the goodness, generosity and hospitality of people.
I am now pursuing my career in international cooperation while looking for a job in West Africa that can combine my passions for administration, risk management and non-formal education with young adults.
We invite you to view a video produced by Global Affairs Canada marking International Volunteer Day 2016 in which Julie participated.
