Canada World Youth is celebrating the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples by sending 34 Indigenous youth interns to Peru!

Parliament Hill-web

What better way to celebrate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples than by an emotional send-off today of our 5th cohort of interns to Peru! These interns are part of our Pathways to Indigenous Youth Leadership Program which is generously funded Global Affairs Canada through the International Aboriginal Youth Internship Iniative (IAYI).

Through participation in overseas development projects in Peru, and access to training and mentorship, the interns will increase their capacity to address international development issues overseas and in their own communities while exploring educational and employment opportunities.

The 34 Indigenous interns from coast-to-coast-to-coast have completed their week-long pre-departure orientation in Ottawa and are ready to spend the next four months in Peru in the communities of Mato, Juli, Lampa & Huaylas. They will be welcomed by our partner, Brigada de Voluntarios Bolivarianos del Perú (BVBP) who will be offering training and capacity building for the interns as well as working on community-development initiatives. They will be in good hands!

To find out more about our interns, please visit their bios.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook as they will be sharing with us their stories throughout their internships.
