No Risk to Youth Volunteers in Kenya: Fire at Kenya International Airport
Canada World Youth is monitoring the situation in Kenya with the recent fire at the Kenya’s International Airport, which took place today, August 7th, 2013. The fire is not a risk to the safety of our youth volunteers currently in Kenya. Youth volunteers travelling from Kenya left yesterday and were not affected by the airport fire. Youth volunteers currently in Kenya remain safely in their host communities outside of the capital city of Nairobi, where the fire took place. KENVO and their host communities are located in the central province, for which there is no travel advisory. We are working closely with our Kenyan partner organization, KENVO, to monitor the situation and ensure the best possible solutions for safe travel to and from Kenya.
We are in regular communication with Kenya Airways to determine the best possible options available for international travel if the airport remains closed on the date of departure for volunteers travelling to Kenya and for those returning to Canada.
