Meet the Philanthropy Team!



Deborah (Debbie) Estrin, MSW, Head of Philanthropy

A seasoned fundraising executive, Debbie Estrin has over fifteen years of experience in the non profit sector. Previous to her current position, she worked as Director of Development at the Koffler Centre of the Arts. She held positions at the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation as Director of Donor Services and at UJA/Jewish Federation of Greater Toronto as Senior Campaign Associate. Debbie also lived in the Dallas, Texas, where she served as director of an $11 million Annual Campaign for the Jewish Federation.

Debbie lives in the Davisville area of Toronto with her husband, Steven and her daughter Serena. She is an active volunteer for a number of causes including the Engage and Change Program for the Homeless and Girl’s Night Out. In addition to being an avid reader and cultural enthusiast, she appreciates a good game of Scrabble.

Debbie approaches fundraising from a community-building perspective and looks forward to developing a comprehensive program to reach out to the CWY family. Mathieu Dagonas, Senior Advisor, Philanthropy

Mathieu Dagonas is our new Senior Advisor, Philanthropy at CWY. Prior to joining the CWY team, Mathieu worked at Frontier College as the Senior Development Officer and as the Senior Advisor, Operations for the Ontario Minister of Revenue. Mat likes to spend his time outside of work volunteering for charitable organizations such as: the Sick Kids Foundation, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Oxfam Canada.Mathieu is also a big sports fan and regularly supports his favorite sports franchise the Toronto Raptors. In nicer weather, you can catch Mat enjoying leisurely activities such as beach volleyball, hockey and golf.

Mathieu completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics. Cécile Lanouette, Administrative Assistant. Philanthropy

Cécile Lanouette, a trained linguist and terminologist, started her career working in her field before taking a break to focus on her family. When it came time to re-enter the job market, Cécile decided to reorient her career path and found her way to Canada World Youth, an organisation she approached based on its central mission and values. Now 20 years later, Cécile has taken on multiple projects and held several positions in the organisation, predominantly in the areas of fundraising and volunteer recruitment. Through all of her experience, she has gained a great deal of knowledge and strong understanding of the work of CWY, notably the work we do to build on our objectives and values. Now an integral part of our Philanthropy team, she is looking forward to building on her skills and experience in fundraising to support the work of her team and the organisation.
