Message from the President and C.E.O. of Canada World Youth for the International Volunteer Day

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Canada World Youth and staff, I would like to emphasize the importance of volunteering in our lives and warmly thank our past and present volunteers for the exceptional contribution they offer to the world community.

Volunteering is a sign of an active democracy, that under all its shapes and its different contexts, contributes to enhancing the lives of all. Each year, 1,000,000 hours are dedicated by the CWY volunteers to development and community projects. Such involvement directly contributes defending and promoting human rights, health, environment, sustainable economic growth, and taking care of the future of children and youth.

‘’The transfer of skills and knowledge from person to person ensures local ownership of solutions and delivers results that last a lifetime in the recipient community’’, highlighted Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, in his Statement for the International Volunteer Day. Indeed, volunteer groups are the greatest transmitters of knowledge, facilitating the dialog between the government authority and people, thus leading to implement concrete and beneficial actions in the communities.

Once again, a genuine thank you to all the Canada World Youth volunteers, and to all the active volunteers in their communities. Thanks for enriching the life of each and every one.
