CWY and the Philippines CWY Alumni Association sign letter of intent
CWY and the Philippines CWY Alumni Association (PCWY) conducted a strategic planning meeting on July 16-17, 2015. At the end of this meeting, both organizations signed a letter of intent to form a strategic alliance to implement the youth exchange program in the Republic of the Philippines. This strategic alliance will allow CWY to transfer its experience and knowledge to the PCWY, which will work as an autonomous organization authorized to use CWY’s name and licensed know-how in the Philippines. In practical terms, this alliance is expected to translate into the implementation of reciprocal, youth exchanges between Canadian and Filipino youth before the end of June 2016. This is a historical milestone for CWY, as this will be the first of a series of strategic alliances with international partners to restart the offering of the CWY youth exchange program, using an approach that allows for financial sustainability, as well as scalability and flexibility.
The letter of intent was signed by Rita S. Karakas,President and C.E.O. of CWY and Dr. Gloria Jumamil-Mercado, Senior Vice-president of the Development Academy of the Philippines and alumna from the 1977-78 Youth Exchange Program.
In the presence of Mike Power, Director of Programs at CWY, Helen Galeon-Aperocho, alumna from the 1977-78 Youth Exchange Program, Nadia Ponce, Senior Program Associate at CWY and Larry Belgica, alumnus from the 1974-75 Youth Exchange Program.
